The adults feed on nectar from a variety of flowers.
This butterfly can be found in most open habitats.
Eggs are laid singly on the stems and leaves of the hostplants. The caterpillars feed from the leaves and the flowers.
In the northern part of its range it is in flight from April to October and from March to December in the southern parts of its range.
This species differs from most fritillaries in that it has several hostplants not just violets and it also has several broods per year instead of just one.
